Quick Summary of Week 1

So, I have decided that this may be the best way to keep in touch. Feel free to email if you like :) I don't expect people to trully have time to read about my daily life, but I hope this is good for communicating what's going on during my time in Germany.

Recap:

Last Week:

  • Slightly overwhelming switch from Corvallis to Bad Mergentheim within about 48 hours!

  • Excited chance to practice my elementary German language skills with the shuttle driver at the airport - he spoke no English, woo!

  • Arrival in Bad Mergentheim. . .no idea where anything was (supermarket, drug store, etc). Eventually, I got a ride with a German girl to the store and was given a lesson in recycling (Oregon's got nothing on the recycling system here!)

  • My German language intensive course began (my professor spoke no English and we weren't allowed to speak English in class)...they don't call it "intense" for nothing!

  • I spent a day in Wuerzburg. It was so amazing to see the old churches, the Residence Palace and Marienberg Fortress (I posted pics on facebook. If you want a link, let me know)
  • I experienced the Autobahn -- these Germans are ballas with their sweet cars. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Volv, etc...those cars weren't made for 65mph speed limits

There is more to the first week, but I'm going to err on the side of too little writing.
